A little of this and that this week along with visiting
with my long time friend Tammie. So let's just jump right in:)
Interview
-
Tammie, can you tell me a little about
yourself?
Before I do, I would like to touch on
something from Ronni's interview last week. Having been an Active
Duty Spouse stationed overseas, I would like to remember and honor those
currently stationed in other parts of the world. They are not allowed to
show their Patriotism like we have the freedom to do in America because of
safety reasons, especially if they live "on the economy" instead of base
housing. I keep them in my thoughts and prayers.
I was born in Georgia and my father was transferred to Virginia when I was
10 so I have a strong Southern Heritage and was also influenced greatly by
the strength of the people of Appalachia. I have been married to the same
wonderful man for over 24 years and we have three children. Our youngest
son is in high school, our oldest son and the middle child is a Disabled
American Veteran because of an accident in basic training. He is currently
working in the restaurant business. Our oldest is the mother of our two
grandchildren--who we spoil shamelessly! LOL
I have been using a computer since May of 1999 and I have amazed myself
with how much I have learned in that short amount of time. Then I
discovered "Stationery" I used to save
Bill Scott's scripts
and say "someday I can do this"
A member of a recipe group I was in was getting asked questions about how
she made her stationeries so she started a 'chat' group and explained the
basics of doing it in Outlook Express and referred those of us wanting to
learn more to Alottafun-Stationery and I 'took off' from there to where I
am now.
Tammie, browsing your sites, the first
thing I am struck by is your backgrounds and the second is your love of
Appalachia. My mother's family hails from there and I sense that same
pride in them...how do you think Appalachia influenced you as a person?
Thank you Connie, I take pride in
everything I make. The
poems on my MadewithTLC site were sent into the 'chat' group by a
friend of mine who lives in West Virginia. They touched me so much that I
made stationeries to send into the group. When I found out she couldn't
see the "full effect" because of how WebTv works, I promised her I would
put them up on a website. I think they are my favorites of everything I've
done.
Appalachia influenced me in several ways and to me that will always be
"Home."
The beauty and the hardships of the region are such contrasts to each
other and it takes very Special people to live in that region. There is so
much more to Appalachia than what is portrayed in the media. The strength
of character of the people and the rugged beauty of the land are what I
love the most and what encourage me when I need strength.
We have known each other since we went thru Alottafun Stationery together
and we have wandered the stationery groups together since. But I only
dabble in it these days...you went on to Treated With Care and Joy...can
you give me a rundown on your group? And your partner DJ?
Treated with Care and Joy
is a beginner's stationery and PSP list that DJ and I started in
association with
Alottafun-Stationery. We were moderators of a prior list similar to
ours. The list owner had been ill and unable to keep up with the list or
the website so with lots of discussions between DJ and myself and lots of
encouragement and support from
Neeser (the owner of
Alottafun-Stationery) and a few other special people we decided we would
open our own list.
We are primarily for the ones who want to learn scripting and PSP at the
same time and are new to both. We use the same first 10 scripts that are
used in Alottafun-Stationery but we teach them some basics of PaintShopPro
and a few of the filters/plugins that are available. When members
"graduate" they go on to ALF-S and can start with Lesson 11.
For the members to learn more about PSP I always recommend they join
PSPMadeEZ.
Old Man River has graciously given TCJ permission to feature his
background tutorials as other examples of a full-panel background strip
and we encourage the members to do other PSP tutorials for their
stationeries.
We also recommend just "playing" in PSP--that's how some really wonderful
effects get created and one of the best ways to learn the program. Just
playing was the basis for something I created and you asked if I would
write a tutorial for it months before TCJ was opened. This tutorial is the
basis for the Lesson 9 script and is the first one I had ever written.
What can I say about DJ? She is my rock. She is an accomplished stationery
maker in her own right and is the one who keeps track of the lessons each
member posts. She also allows me time to learn script writing. She
is a fabulous person and I consider myself blessed to have her in my life
as a friend and a partner in TCJ.
How many students have you had go thru your course so far would you say?
DJ says a rough estimate on
graduates is between 60-75. Not bad since we've only been open since June
1st.
And do you still have a waiting list?
Yes, we have a waiting list for TCJ.
We keep the membership limited to around 25 members at a time so we can
give more "hands-on" help to the members. At present, we have 5 pending
members and as we 'graduate' one, we add a new member.
I'm also proud to add that we have two members who graduated from TCJ in
the Scratchy-Scripters VBscript classes and they are doing great!
I love your
Ernie
tutorial :) It would never have crossed my mind to do a tutorial on
that, but I bet that it is popular :) What gave you the idea? And
can we look for Burt and Big Bird to follow?
Several members of a PSP group
started a "Childhood Memory" Series with tutorials for characters we
remember fondly from our childhood (or our children's).
Ernie was one of my daughter's favorite characters from Sesame Street and
I drew him out just to see if I could then decided to write the tutorial
for it. It was a great learning experience for me because I had never
tried to write one like that before. It really made me appreciate all the
fantastic tutorials writers who take the time to generously share their
work so we can learn.
If I can find the time, I will try
to do Bert and Big Bird. I've been thinking of doing Bert ever since I did
Ernie but haven't taken the time to do it.
Tammie, your an active member of PSPmadeEZ and Sharing as well as your
group, plus keep up 2 websites...or is it 3?? How do you do it??
I have three websites but one is
strictly for my grandchildren so their Mom can show them "Nana's Work" at
home. They both love to see what I've made, especially some of the more
"active" stationeries and the images of cartoon characters I've done.
Made with TLC is where I have
'mini-tuts' I did for Alottafun-Stationery giving some hints and tips, my
"Special Pages of Poetry for a Friend," and my graphics work I've done in
PSP groups. It also has my lace heart tutorial.
Care and Joy are the
PSP tutorials for the Treated with Care and Joy list.
I could not do this without the wonderful support of my husband and my
children. They encourage me to be creative and to learn and are my life.
What would you say is your favorite PSP function? How about the least
favorite?
I am really hard pressed to choose a
favorite function. I use several of them all the time and am learning more
about others. I would say the "node edit" used to be my least favorite but
the more I use it, the more I learn and I am beginning to like Vectors!
Your tribute page
is so touching Tammie, and the poem your daughter wrote really sums up our
gratitude to those who serve. I have long known that we share a common
bond in our appreciation of firefighters, and I am not surprised that you
passed your caring on to your daughter. It has been a pleasure spending
this time with you.
Thank you Connie. That was one of
the hardest things I've ever done. I am so proud of my daughter's
poem and I had to find just the 'right' way to display it. I cried
throughout the entire making of the page, just remembering the events of
September 11. The page still makes me cry today because of tragic loss of
life in New York, the Pentagon, and in Pennsylvania.
Sites to visit:
Last week I gave you the link to
Raving
Concepts and this week I have found two more filter sites (thank
you Tammie and Melissa)
Filter Fun also includes the needed .dll files. Also take time to
visit Plugin Party for contests
and other fun happenings. I guess I need to throw in a disclaimer about
now (see this week's mail section). I am not advocating copyright
infringement and am not responsible for the content of the pages I list
here. I usually do not have a clue where filters come from and if
that filter writer has allowed someone to offer their filters. So if
you see any infringement, please bring it to the website owner....no need
to flame yours truly ok?
Corel has released KPT
7 ! Check it out..I am not sure if they have a
trial version available or not yet, but we can all dream:)
Looking for midi files? Check out the
MidiRobot to make it easier.

Tip of the Week -
Combining Animations
Did you know that you can combine animations?
Simply have both open in Animation Shop and either drag and drop, copy and
paste or Right Click inside the filmstrip border and choose Insert Frames
> From File.
Looking forward...Next
week, Monica, from
Monica's Lessons
will be the featured tutorial writer. She will introduce one or two
new tutorials here as well :) Be sure to check out her yummy
Icing
Tutorial! One of her tutorials will also be the COW next week in
PSPmadeEZ.
From the Mailbox...More Filters
First let me share Doneta's letter:
http://www.btinternet.com/~cateran/simple/
cool pulgin!!! had a filter, Quick Tile, that does
the same thing we use
20/20 for. (can't get away from those filters can we?..who
told that I have a weakness for filters and mask?)
The writer of this next one has asked I not use their
name. I would also like to add that I have not been able to verify
to my satisfaction yet that Attacks Filters is a commercial filter.
I would appreciate info on this and will share it here.
the link that you gave for
the filters....i thought you should know that they are violating some of
the author's copyrights.
For example Attacks Filters
is a commercial filter and is not allowed to be offered for download.
Also the texturizer filter
is copyrighted by Adobe Photoshop and is not supposed to be available
for download as well.
CPK Designs is only to be
downloaded from the author's site
If this person has
permission that is another thing but she should post that she has
permission to offer them.
I am a staunch believer of
giving credit where it is due and I know quite a few people in the
graphics community that want no part in "illegal" filters.
I am not writing this letter
to promote my site or to be petty. I know how the graphics community
feels about copyright issues and just wanted to make my feelings known
Best Wishes and keep up the
good work with the newsletter
