Another Team Spirit Tutorial!

Team5:  Lady Cyr~, Paulette, Connie

You will need the image Reflections of the Past-1997 graphic, the sher_lightwood.jpg, Sparkle11 tub and the woodshutters.tub. Install tubes by going to files/export/picturetube/tubename:woodshutters/click ok.

1.   Open PSP/Files/Open Reflections of the Past-1997.jpg

2.   Go to Image/Resize and choose 75%, Resize all layers/Maintain aspect ratio checked/hit ok (Do NOT sharpen at this time)

 3.   Go to Layers/New Raster Layer/Name it woodshutters. Click on tube tool and select             woodshutters and use these settings.  Scale: 90%, Step:200  Apply tube to center of graphic.

4.   Click on deformation tool  and using your mouse, stretch each corner to evenly over the entire graphic. Double click to apply the deformation effect.

5.   Go to your Layer Palette and right click on Background/Promote to Layer. Right click and rename this layer/graphic. Keep layer highlighted.

6.   Toolbar/Layers/New Raster Layer/name it: cabin wall. Go to your Layer Palette and using your mouse, drag the layer called cabinwall to the bottom.

7.   Keeping the cabinwall layer highlighted/go to Image/Canvas and use these settings:  New Width: 600  New Height: 350  Center horizontally and vertically Checked/click OK.

8.   Open sher_lightwood.jpg/click on foreground/patterns and select the wood/floodfill   cabinwall layer.

9.   Go to Effects/Texture Effects/Blinds and use these settings:  Width: 50 Opacity: 73             Horizontal: Checked   Color: Black  Light from top: Unchecked  Click Ok.  Layers/Merge Visible

10.  Make foreground color white/click on airbrush tool and use these settings:

Starting from the farthest edge on top of the shutters spray a line almost to the end.

11.  Select Smudge tool (the small hand) and use these settings:

Pull down as much snow as you would like.  Your image should now look like this:

12.  Using the Magic Wand, select the snow on the shutter on the left.  Go to Effects/Texture Effects/Soft Plastic and use these settings:

Blur - 20

Detail - 14

Density - 32

Angle - -45

Color - Light Purple

13.  Now since nothing is identical in Nature, using the Magic Wand again, click on the snow on the right shutter and go to Effects/Texture again, but this time choose Textures and from the drop down menu, choose one that reminds you of snow.  I chose #50 with these settings:

Smoothness - 16

Depth - 40

Ambience - 0

Shininess - 63

Color - White

Angle - 151

Intensity - 35

Elevation - 51

Click OK when you are satisfied.  Be brave and try effect on top of effect for a realistic look.

14.  Using the Selection Tool, select the cross pain on the left side of the window

15. In this instance, we want to apply the effect to all the crossbars, and we could do it one by one.  To save time though, hold down the Shift Key and select the opposite crossbar.  Now, continue on the long bars, again holding the Shift Key as you select the bars.  Remember to let go of the Shift Key at the end of each selection.  Marching ants should appear all along the window crossbars.

16.  Go to Effects/3d Effects/Outer Bevel.  From the drop down menu, choose Angled and press OK.  Do NOT deselect at this point!

17.  Make sure your Background Color is set to black, and again go to Effects/3d Effects/Chisel.  Now Go to Selections/Select None.

18.  One more trip to Effects/Sharpen/Sharpen More.

19. Now we are going to brighten the moon some. Click on Effects/Illumination Effects/Sunburst. Use these settings.

20. Click on layers, new raster layer. Name this layer 'sparkles'. Click on your tube tool and the 'sparkle11' tube, scale: 30%, step: 100. Click on each of the headlights on the car in the foreground.

21. Go to layers, merge, merge all.

22. Hold down your Shift key and hit the D key 3 times to make a total of 4 copies of your image. Working on one copy at a time add a few sparkles to each image in some of the windows in the village. Try to vary the windows you use in each copy. Save each image, numbering them 1 through 4.

23. Launch Animation Shop. Click on the animation wizard. Check 'same size as first image frame', next, 'transparent', next, 'centered in the frame' and 'with the canvas color', next, 'yes repeat indefinitely', 60/100 of a second, next, click 'add image' and add each of your four images. Click next and then finish. You can view your animation by clicking on the film clip icon at the top right of your animation program.

24. Go to file, save as, give it a name and be sure it is saving as a .gif, click ok, I have my animation quality set for the first mark below the top, click next, next, next, and finish.

We hope you enjoyed this tutorial :)
