Team 1amythyst, Maureen, LR, TLC
This tutorial is a collaboration between team members. LR had a family emergency and was unable to participate in this challenge. To do this tutorial, you will need PSP7, Simple Filters, and this zip file with the images, gradient, and mask.
Unzip the folder and put the images in the folder where you keep your graphics, the gradient in your PSP7 Gradients folder, and the mask in your PSP7 masks folder. Remember to save your work as you go.
Open PSP and open both of your images. Minimize 'Autumn Lady' for now. "Shift, D" twice to duplicate 'River' and close the original. Minimize one of the images. With the other 'River' image active, go to Effects, Plugins, Simple Filters and apply Quick Tile. Go to Simple Filters again and apply 4 Way Average, and once more applying Zoom Out and Flip.
In your foreground Styles box, click on the triangle to change to patterns. Click on the box to open the pattern window, then find and choose the image you just made. Minimize the image for now and activate the other 'River' image. In your Layers Palette, right click on background, then Promote to Layer. Go to Masks, Load from Disk, find am-rectangle and apply. Masks, Delete, Yes.
Add a layer, then floodfill with the pattern you just made. Masks, Load from Disk, am-rectangle mask, Masks, Invert, Mask, Delete, Yes.
Add a layer, change your patterns to gradient and select MW Autumn River. Floodfill with the gradient with the settings shown:
Hint from Maureen: Add Noise to the gradient (I used 4%) to soften the gradient blend. Adding Noise takes away those lines which appear when you apply a gradient and gives a much cleaner blend of colours.
Go to Effects, Geometric Effects, Page Curl and use the following settings:
Now go to Layers, Arrange, Send to Bottom. Turn off the top 'frame' layer and lower the opacity of the 'river' layer to 50. Make sure your 'river' layer is the active layer. Zoom in, scroll all the way to the bottom and far right corner of the image, select your eraser tool -- Round, Size 15, Hardness, Opacity, and Density set at 100, Step at 25. Erase the 'River' image showing on the large orange background. Change the size to 5 and continue erasing on the curl. Hint from Maureen: as you get close to the edge of the paper curl, erase small areas by unclicking the mouse between moves. Then, if you have to un-do an area, you won't un-do the whole lot.
Turn off layer 3, the gradient layer and you can see if you missed any part that needs to be erased in the page curl and orange background area of 'River.' With the gradient layer turned off, you will be able to see slight shadows if you missed any parts.
Make sure the 'River' layer is still active, then take your Retouch tool, set to Soften, Size 5, Everything else set at 100, carefully go around the edges of the curl. Return the opacity to 100 and turn off this layer.
Turn on the top 'frame' layer, activate, and repeat the erase and retouch steps. Activate the bottom layer 'page curl.' Take your Magic Wand, Tolerance and Feather set at 0 and click on the lower right hand corner. Selections, Modify, Expand 10. Activate "Autumn Lady" then Images, Mirror, Edit, Copy, Click on your 'River' image, Edit, Paste Into Selection. Selections, None.
Turn on all layers. Now, if you wish, activate the top 'frame' layer and play around with the opacity settings to allow the gradient background to show. When you are happy with your choice, Layers, Merge All, Flatten.
Images, Add Borders, 10, Symmetric. Change the gradient back to patterns and make sure the same pattern as in the 'frame' layer is still selected. Take your Magic Wand tool and select just the border. Floodfill the border. Keep Selected. Effects, Geometric Effects, Wave settings shown:
Effects, 3D Effects, Drop Shadow, V and H set at 6, Opacity 70, Blur 10, Color 3A3A22. Repeat changing V and H to -6. Selections, Invert. Effects 3D effects, Cutout. V and H set at 6, Opacity 50, Blur 25, Shadow Color 3A3A22. Repeat, changing V and H to -6. Selections, Select None.
Image, Resize pixel width 400 (or if using for stationery 75%), make sure Maintain aspect ratio box is checked. Effects, Sharpen, Unsharp Mask, Default Settings. Hint from Maureen: Hit Reset (the button next to Help) to go to the Default Settings.
Save as a *.jpg image.
Note from Maureen: Hi Tammie & Am This is great! I even learnt a number of things that I wasn't aware of before - such as the Unsharp Mask and reducing the opacity so you can see the page curl to erase the unwanted bits of the image. I just knew there had to be a way! Thank you!!! Thanks to Connie for allowing me to be part of this team effort and to you Tammie for pulling it all together. I think it is a great concept. Cheers Maureen Here's my completed tutorial jpeg.
As "Team Captain" I would like to thank amythyst for her contribution. She added her mask to the original 'River' image and I used it for the 'Frame.' Also Maureen for the gradient that she made for this and the page curl effect, the settings shown are the ones she used. I did change the colors used to match her gradient. I used amythyst's mask on the frame and everything else was my creation. I hope you enjoy doing the TutorialsMadeEZ Team tuts as much as we enjoy and have fun making them. Be sure and check out the other team tutorials at the TutorialsMadeEZ website. "TLC"
